Bolderaja 2 freight railway station and connecting railway to Krievu sala terminals

Within the framework of the project, there was built a station Bolderaja 2 with 9 railway tracks with total length about 8,5 km, as well as connecting path to the terminals of Krievu island with viaducts over Daugavgriva highway and over 10 m long access road of “Latvijas propāna gāze” Ltd., as well as bridge over Beķera ditch.
Total project price – 41 million euros, 30 of them – co-financing of the Cohesion fund, 11 million euros – SJSC Ļatvijas dzelzceļš”. The construction was carried out by GP “BMGS S”, but construction contract management and construction supervision was carried out by GP “SYSTRA – L4 Bolderāja 2”.
Within the framework of the project the following facilities were built:
1. connecting railway track to the terminals of Krievu island, i.e.:
- Earth bed with drainage system (total amount of filled sand is ~182.4 thousands m3, the upper point of the embankment is at about 10-11 m level);
- ~2.61 km long railway track;
- Railway engineering structures (Hapaka ditch culvert; Railway viaduct over Daugavgriva highway; Railway viaduct over access road of “Latvijas propāna gāze” Ltd.; Railway bridge over Beķera ditch and newly built road);
- Reconstruction of sewage pipeline;
- Reconstruction of water supply pipeline on Daugavgrīvas street;
- Cable networks;
2. station Bolderāja 2, i.e.:
- Earth bed with drainage system (total amount of filled sand is ~65.6 thousands m3);
- Inbound yard tracks (total length of railway tracks is ~7.98 km), i.e.: 5 receiving ad departure tracks with minimal useful height 850 m, 3 sorting tracks with minimal useful height 450 m, 1 draw-out track and 22 turnouts;
- Railway engineering structures (bridges for 8 railway tracks and bridge for the service road over Hapaka ditch culvert);
- Lighting and power supply systems (high-voltage and low-voltage cable networks, station lighting, electric heating of turnouts);
- Service technical buildings and facilities, i.e.: Post building of centralization control, Heating post, 2 artesian wells buildings and LNG storage;
- Water supply and sewage systems, i.e.: Household and domestic water supply networks and facilities, Rainwater drainage networks and facilities, Firefighting water supply networks and facilities, including firefighting pump station and firefighting tank;
- Motorway, i.e.: Connecting motorway from station Bolderāja to station Bolderāja 2, Internal network of station Bolderāja 2 roads, Railroad crossings;
- 28 m high radio mast and cable canalization;
- Technical security systems, i.e.: Fire and security alarm system, Video surveillance system and video information transmission system;
Total number of built sand piles (with length from 10 to 22 m) is almost 5 400 with total length over 90 km;
To accelerate the process of soil consolidation there were vertical drainages installed on the connecting path (length of each drainage from 10 to 27 m) with total length of almost 100 km;
For the delivery of sand more than 17 000 truckloads of cargo trucks were organized;
The survey, design and construction works took 33 months.
